Washor, a professional artist and former textile designer, could barely lift her painting arm
after injuring her shoulder. Working on smaller canvases, however, was relatively
painless-and had lots of other advantages. The highest quality paints are more affordable,
since less paint is used. Furthermore, one can work on several small works in the same
space one large painting might take. In this illustrated guide (250 color), Washor expertly
guides novices on selecting quality supplies on a budget, mixing color, scaling down
subjects to fit smaller areas, and capturing a range of textures and reflective surfaces. She
offers sound advice on framing, displaying, and marketing work as well. A distinctive
approach; recommended. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

This book is a great help for every artist who works in color
I found this book to be a clear, well written, amply illustrated and incouraging work. The idea of
miniatures was new to me and exciting. Joyce Washor's paintings are beautiful. Nothing was
left out in her step by step method. The book is both handsome to look at and wonderfully
thorough. I studied painting at art school and I felt that this book was the equal of a full year's
course with an exceptional teacher. It's also affordable enough to give as a gift. I'm happy to
have found it.

I love this book!
I love this book! I took it on vacation. What a treat! I've been painting for years. This author
writes well. She starts at the basics of what you need, and 'grows' your ability through the use
of color, brush work, technique, and composition. She includes demo's with a detailed color
palette. She explains how to make some colors the focal point, and others to recede. She just
makes sense out of painting small. I love this book!
