I live and work in a one bedroom apartment in
Riverdale, N.Y. with my husband, Paul Saltzman
I have been drawn to making art since finger
painting days in a Brooklyn kindergarten class.
When miniature painting found me as a result of
a shoulder injury I truly found myself as a painter.
I found I could actually see in a way I had not
previously seen. A rotator cuff injury developed
while I was taking a portrait class at the Woodstock
School of Art in 1996. In 1997 I was introduced to
ashram life which greatly enriched my meditation
and spiritual practices. As I began to
establish a relationship with my inner self I also began to scale down my canvases. I
found so many advantages to painting small! I am totally captivated by small images.
I have been exploring still lifes, landscapes and portraits for the last ten years! I feel
fortunate that I was given the opportunity by North Light Books to document my
painting process. I know, only too well that any kind of art-making does not come
easily; large or small. Artists need to understand the basic painting principals. I do
believe however that many aspects of painting small makes the process easier.
